TYPES OF CAR CLAIMS
There are around 10,000 car accidents in the UK every day. Car accidents can be caused by vehicle failure (~3%) or poor road maintenance (~7%). The vast majority (~90%) are the result of human error.
Vehicle Failure
This could be due to design or manufacturing faults during the production process, which may subsequently become the subject of product recalls. It is much more likely that vehicle failure will be caused by poor car maintenance, leading to faulty brakes or lights for example.
Road maintenance
Pot holes and other types of damage to the road surface can present a hazard for drivers. Poor road drainage can lead to flooding. Existing road works can also be an additional risk factor.
Human error
Human error is the biggest cause of car accidents, and is often a contributing factor when there is another cause as well. Distractions inside or outside the car, driver fatigue, misjudging speed or direction, speeding and drink-driving can all lead to driver error.
It is important to ensure that your incident does not go unreported by the police. Insist that a report is made, even if insurance details have been exchanged or the incident is considered to be minor. If the driver is uninsured or fails to stop, immediately report the accident to the police, as there may be circumstances in which your claim will be dealt with by the
Motor Insurers Bureau, in which case there are strict time limits applicable that may affect your claim. Our team of specialist personal injury lawyers will be able to help you with every step of the legal process.
